Just dropped my baby off to get a set-up... Kinda nervous...

I left it with a guy that came highly recommended, and after talking to him I'm sure he knows what he's doing (he even invented a bunch of tools for working on guitars), but I am still a little nervous about my little Becky (the Schecky... My wife suggested Hector the Schector...). Gonna cost me about $73, and i know it will be money well spent, I just felt funny about someone else touching her.

If you thought your bass could use a setup - a basic, non-invasive, routine procedure for many shops - it will be nothing but beneficial for your bass in terms of tone and playability. Why are you worried? And why hasn't your wife taken the opportunity to tell you that you're over-reacting?

I just had my second bass professionally set up. It went from a usable if needed bass to my new go to bass. The key is using a GOOD luthier/repair person, which from your post sounds like you did. My biggest mistake was having some work done once by some guy I never heard of on CL, never again. If your guy is as good as your post suggests your baby is in good hands.

be sure to play it in front of the guy when you go to get it, so if you need to have it a pinch higher or lower than he set it for, he can easily re-tweak it right then. (don't worry about offending anybody, we all know that our perfect set-up may not be your perfect set-up.)

Well, I got my baby back and it plays like butter. He adjusted the pickup height along with everything else, and it seems like its hotter than it used to be. I did find out some bad news about my acoustic guitar though... I took it to him just to see what he might have to say about it, and he thinks it needs upwards of $1000 to be made right. kinda sucks, but oh well.
