Just got an American '97 Deluxe Jazz ...

I just got an American '97 Deluxe Jazz, blue with a maple neck -- a bit beat up but with a good sound.

The four keys are of two different eras -- both have the Fender "F" on the worm gear shield, one pair has a more vintage/traditional flat metal key and the either a cast key. In this instance I may just give myself the excuse to get some low-weight replacements like Hipshot HB6C - 1/2'' Clover Key Ultralite (over Schaller which weigh more) -- any opinions?

Any info on the tone controls, setting etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would stick with the Schallers (or Fender/Schaller if you want the "F" stamp) since no additional drilling is required. The housing on those tuners are made from boron so they are very light.

You can find the "F" stamped ones with the flat pegs here: Bass Parts Resource: Genuine Fender Bass Tuners

And the Schallers with die-cast pegs: Schaller BML Light Bass Tuners

And the matching Hipshot D-Tuner if you are so inclined: Fender Lite Weight > Store > Hipshot Products
