Still, $150-$200 is a lot less than $600. If I had the knowledge and skill to build a bass, I wouldn't hesitate to do so!

Just happen to have some right here Spanky!

Some details - First, the body is pretty filthy with shop dirt. I work in a very small space and it isn't as clean as the new shop will be. It's gonna get a deep cleaning before the finishing process starts. Everything went pretty good as there weren't any real surprises in the glue-up. That's saying something since the top halves were glued individually. Not the way it should be done in most cases. It's very, very light but I can't verify it's actual weight without a decent scale. I've got some neck work to do and then I'll move onto some pre-assembly to check things out.

Thanx for the interest!

Just wonderng, but what is the purpose of the accent stripe down the center of the bdy if you put the solid walnut top on it? Just wondering if it serves a purpose.

It still looks beautiful!!! That walnut has some beautiful figuring in it!

Thanx for looking!

Good eye TBB! The stripe serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever except to be distinctive!

Every "feature" on this thing is a result of an experiment researching different techniques and approaches. The top was a trial at re-sawing wood with a table saw - it worked pretty well. Thickness sanding was done on a homemade 18" thickness sander - saved about 10 hours! The multi-piece laminate construction in the wings came about because I had nice lumber but not the right thickness for a body. I cut it and re-oriented it into quartersawn grain and put'em back together - a lesson in gluing that I won't soon forget The ash was cuz it was there and I hadn't built a multi-species body yet. And finally, the chambering was done because this was the first thick laminate top that I had done and the opportunity was there. Anything that comes about from here on out like pup covers or hardware selection will onlyl be done to help the design develop. That's sort of how these things come about for me. If I didn't have a great run of happy accidents, things til now would've been hideous!
