The originals band I'm in has a handfull of songs in Drop D tuning. Right now we play all these songs at the beginning of the set and Tune up once for the remaining of the set. I thought it would be nice if we didn't have to be limeted to that one "tune-up" during the set. Seeing the guitarist both have a second guitar, It would be easy to play any song at any time. What has your experience been with a De-tuner? And...no, I have no use for a fiver at this time! |

You don't say which bass you plan to use the Hipshot on, but on the MIA P, installation took literally less than 5 minutes, and it's a perfect match for the stock tuners. |

Not only do you have the ability to detune and retune instantly, which would absolutely come in handy for your situation, but after you've gotten the hang of it, you can flip the switch down, and then back up, in the middle of a song. I even started to use it is a whammy-type effect in certain places- I'd fret and pluck a note regularly, then use my right hand to lower the note and raise it back on the Hipshot. Like anything else, you're only limited by your imagination.
Pros- it's easy to install, it's barely noticeable once in place, and provides any number of playing advantages.
Cons- none I can think of. |

It's tuned E - C, but it would be nice to drop it down to D if I wanted to goof around. And if it gets tiresome, I could always to go back to a B - G tuning and not use it. I'm all about versatility.

It took me longer to get the hang of tuning the string properly then it did to install the thing! Its extremely useful.....but for me, its not perfect. There are times when I flip the switch and the D is slightly out of tune or when I come back to E the E is slightly out of tune. Then there are times when its perfect, both ways. I have a tuner always activated on my pedalboard so its no biggie for me to make slight adjustments on the fly....I'm just saying that mine is not always perfect.
But even so, because both bands I play in switch a lot between standard and Drop D, its a huge benefit for me to have one.

Dialing in tuning for E and D took another 5 minutes(minor adjustments to set screw). Overall everything went very smooth. Played around with it this weekend. Looking forward to practice with the band tomorrow night! |

1 on a fretless 70s precision and the 2nd on a fretless MM Stingray. They worked great if you take the time and set it up.
Be aware though if you use a roundwound strings it will act like a saw and groove through the nut. I used mine alot and again it worked great on both basses.
