Just a Quick Question...

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender P. Everyone has a Fender P, therefore I want to make mine stand out a little with a mirrored pickguard (much like Phil Lynnott's). But as my P is active, with 4 control knobs as opposed to the usual 3, replacement pickguards are hard to come by (especially outside the US and for a reasonable cost). Therefore, I thought the easiest thing to do would be just to work with what I have and repaint/coat my current pickguard.
What would you guys recommend for this, 'cus I'm sure a can of silver paint won't quite cut it...

If you could cut out a duplicate your pickguard with Plexiglas, you could back it with a mirror window tint.

OK, that might work, although I don't really have the tools for too much fabrication

They have stick-on mirrors like they use in toys. Would need some protective coating on it, but not sure how well a spray coatin would adhere. Just trying to think of a cheap solution that doesn't require any fabrication.

An example:

Mirrored vinyl or mylar sticker material. Look to sign shop supply or crafts stores, it is a very common material and easy to apply.

About using vinyl....I made a ramp and covered it with vinyl since I have a small cutter and make small signs etc on the side....Cool, no painting, no waiting right. So I installed it and I'm playing away....and I'm hearing these little bitty like static discharges...so I checked my bridge to see if it was grounded etc...anyway it was my fingers discharging after they hit the vinyl I had on the ramp....so I took the vinyl off and painted it with black lacquer, applied the graphic and then applied a clear lacquer coat..... and now its quiet.....true story. They have what's called "Frogjuice" that signmakers shoot over their graphics as a uv protectant. I should have shot the original vinyl coating and graphic with frogjuice or clear lacquer...maybe that would of fixed it. The lacquer I have on there now doesn't "snap".
