Just when you thought you'd seen it all,,,,

Had a guy come over this afternoon with a friend of mine with his brand spankin new Washburn.
He showed me this "New Trick" for protecting the back side from belt rash.
Contact Paper! "Wood-grain to sort of match the finish."
He was proudly declaring how it will keep the back looking new.
I couldn't help but admire how carefully he cut it out after sticking it on. Cut it out with a single edged razor-blade,,,, RIGHT THRU THE FINISH!
I just looked at my buddy and we didn't say a word.
I think I'll pass on that idea.

Not to mention that it would probably be hell to ever completely get the adhesive off the finish if he removed the contact paper. Adhesives are sometimes tougher than the finish..

Couldn't he have just put some contact paper on his belt buckles instead??

Mag...

Totatlly amazing that this guy would deface his instrument to solve such a simple problem. I have avoided the dreaded belt rash by just moving my belt buckle over to the side so it doesn't scratch the bass.

I find this method to be highly effective at eliminating buckle rash (if your arms are long enough):

why not just untuck your shirt and let it hang over the buckle?

I love your method!!!
I'm sure it works too.
I'm old enough to get away with the Sweatshirt scene, or Tee and no belt.

+1 to both of these. If you really want to wear a belt and don't want it to scratch, just wear it sideways......or deal with the scratches-adds that "vintage" look .

Or, I heard of this great way to use contact paper.....

I don't have a problem with buckle rash because I always play with my shirts not tucked in. And if I did have buckle rash, so be it

Buckle Rash, bumps, scrapes, dents, scratches, etc = mojo.

I clean my basses and take care of them, but I'm not paranoid when it bumps something or gets a scratch, etc.

Well said.

If you're hell-bent on keeping the bass mint though, just use a piece of clear vinyl. Sticks to any smooth surface via static & suction = no adhesives. Or just play naked.
