I have a Kramer bass with a alloy neck and wooden inserts, the problem is the inserts have expanded over time and i can feel them when playing, has anyone else had a simular problem?how did you solve it,i was thinking of sanding the inserts down to make the neck nice and smooth, but not sure if this is the right way to go,any ideas, guys?thanks.

Hi Cutty

...or the alloy has shrunk. ;-)

If the expanding of the inlays isn't related to excessive humidity, i would sand em down with 240-grit then finer. The finish, at least on my DMZ5000, is pretty sticky and starts to crackle on some parts of the neck. Sanding would make it "satin-finish like" (?)

It is a vintage guitar. Any modification will affect the value negatively.

I guess I'd be concerned about messing with the original finish and hurting value, but if I weren't concerned with that, I'd want to be very careful to avoid sanding scratches into the aluminum.

If you just feel them, I suggest you leave it alone and keep feeling them. It shouldn't really get in the way of playing it. I think the cure would be worse than the problem.
