ksd owners... truss rod size?

Sign in to disble this ad
So after several attempts at just getting info from Brooklyn Gear about what size truss rod for my KSD-6. I am turning here to Talkbass for some help from members who own them. my bass has too truss rods btw..Kool!

I have heard the horror stories about those who used the wrong size and stripped the truss rod, and the horror stories about those who tried to get help from Brooklyngear and were unsatisfied, AS I AM.

I like the bass but the customer service at this point is unsat to say the least.

Any help would be appreciated.

The best thing you can do at this point is to remove the existing nut.Loosening the strings and carefully backing out the nut.My bass tech replaced the old nut with one of the big cross slotted nuts the you find on the heel of some of the older Fender bass necks. The truss rod on my KSD was also loose on the bottom of the neck.I'm not exactly sure what my tech did but it involved drilling a pretty good size hole in the heel of the neck.Maybe it's best if you took the bass to a qualified repair guy.Especially since you have two trussrods.
You are right, you will not get any help from Adam at Brooklyn Gear or Ken Smith.I'm not the only one who has tried and failed.
I ended up making so many changes to my KSD that I removed the logo.Nobody would ever recognize it as a KSD. Nothing was left unchanged including the neck shape and modifications to the body.To get the bass to it's current condition cost me about 1500.- if add it all up.A stupid amount of money to pay for a KSD.I could have gotten all kinds of nice basses for that amount of money.
If I could do it again I would return the bass to Bass Specialty when they were not able to get me the correct size wrench.Especially after a completely worthless phone call with Ken Smith. It would have saved me a lot of trouble.
But it is really really nice now and definitely "one of a kind".

Are you asking what size allen/hex wrench for adjustment, or truss rod nuts?
