KSD Proto J 705 change to 34" scale?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have had an issue with my KSD proto j 5 string bass.
The truss rod failed.Adam Levy from Brooklyn Gear has been reassuring me for the past nine months that he will help me get a new neck.
I'm realizing now that it has been all talk.5 months ago I was told my neck is in a shipment to the USA.Nothing ever materialized.
Anyway, I'm giving up and I'm trying to salvage the bass somehow. At first i was thinking about having the old neck copied by a builder.Minus the design defect of course. But since I'm going through this I thought I might look into changing the instrument to a 34" scale.
Has anybody here done such a procedure? What should I be aware of when I do this?

Changing scale will work if the 12th fret is centered exactly between nut and saddles. This may mean moving the bridge or setting the neck-to-body joint at a different fret than the original.

If you need a support group, search KSD and you will find that your truss rod problem is not unique.

That makes sense and sounds simple enough.I will probably reset the neck joint, because I like the pickups in the 70s location and that's where they are now.
I will check with warmoth and Allparts to see if i can get a neck that will work.
As far as the support group goes,I know.
I just feel like an idiot because i allowed Adam Lavy from Brooklyn Gear to string me along for almost a year on this. No help ever came from him.Just empty promises.

I am trying to get necks

I am trying to get the new factory to supply me with new necks. They are shipping me necks with a new shipment with the next batch. I expect the necks to arrive in the next three weeks. I need to make sure that the new necks they ship will fit before I can send it out. I do not want to send you a neck that will not fit.

Also since I saw your post I went back and searched your name. Unfortunately your email was in my spam folder. So I am going to respond to you here and in a direct email back to you.

OK Adam, thanks for responding.I have had things disappear in my spam folder too.
I'm really hoping I'll be able to use the KSD again in the future.
