Lakland Hollowbody - String Tension & Tuners

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently acquired a Lakkie Hollowbody... came with flats & flats really ain't my thang.... so, today I thought I'd put on some rounds (D'Addario EXL170).

After the initial tune-up, it seemed that the strings were very tight -- too tight. Came back in an hour or so.. played a lil & re-tuned, didn't seem to be as tight -- so, mark that to stretching right?

Well, trying to adjust the bridge saddles to raise the strings a tiny bit, tiny means 1/4 turns. Just wanted to get it up off the board a lil bit, as it was setup for flats. As I get them all up a 1/4 turn & retune... the strings now seem lil bit on the floppy side...

The other issue -- the D & G tuners seem extremely stiff when the strings are getting close to being in tune. The E & A can turn way past the 440 pitch.... but, the D & G are so hard to turn, it feels like I'm about to break a string.

I don't know what to do with this.... I need some guidance & some thoughts -- I'm pretty rural, so I can't really run down the local shop. And the best shop that I'd trust for a "REAL" setup is 100 miles away.

thanks... jh
