Action wouldn't be able to go quite as low I would assume.

Why?

Action is the distance from the bottom of the string to the top of the fret, not to the fingerboard. It'll take some adjustment to get used to the bigger frets if one is used to pushing hard, but a good fret job includes a good set-up so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

It depends on what you're trying to improve with it.

It's a waste of money to me unless you need it. For the money you spend on it, I doubt the tone would improve that much. That is, of course if it needs a refret, then start clean with your desired fret size!

Agreed--I'll dissuade customers from getting a refret on a whim. Not until/unlesss it's absolutely needed.

I did it on my 5501 and love it. Well worth it!

What is that you love about it? Did you install medium-jumbos, too? What were the stock frets and what was wrong with it?

The original frets were really thin. I just didnt like the feel of them. They were also pretty low. I played a Marcus Miller V (similar size neck. The Marcus is an inch shorter) and loved the feel of it so went with those size frets. Medium Jumbos. Will get a pic up soon!
