LED Fret Markers

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering if anyone had any experiece with these?

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...LAID=188267649

I am thinking about getting some LED lights for my fretless and I was wondering what thoughts were on these, if any.

I have seen the FretFX and they look pretty good, but these are about a quarter of the price.

Any opinions?

Sparkly marketing tool...silly...even Phil Lesh isn't cool enough for them despite his new Ritter

I don't know, seems like a good idea for the fretless!

It would actually be for a fretless bass. I play in some church settings that might be ill lit and something of this nature would be helpful. Not really for show at all, just for ease of playing insomuch as I am not really good at fretless (yet).

I think they'd be good even if you WERE "good at fretless." I can't imagine not being able to see the neck at all.

If it were me, I'd get some fluorescent or glow-in-the-dark paint (any good hobby shop should have these) and paint the side markers with it. That should make the markers stand out enough.

I used a product called FretFX on my USA Precision with great results, they have a checklist you go through when ordering to compensate for fretless instruments. The FretFX unit is a bit more expensive but nearly invisible when mounted and offers a high and low brightness switch.

Yeah, the FretFX is another one that I was looking at. I just wondered if anyone had used this specific brand since they are a bit cheaper than the FretFX. I'll probably end up going with the FretFX, since I have heard several people who have them really like them.

FretFX

I can't speak for the OptiX (but prolly gonna try a set, as I am pretty cheap) but I've installed 3 sets of the FretFX, and they are wonderful. A bit slow to ship, but very easy to install, and the 3 batteries last last a long, long time, got 40 hours+ on one set. I'm in my 50's, and sometimes a dark stage at 2am doesn't enhance my vision. They help.
