Hey Esposito...How hard is it to make your own "string grooves" in the barrels?? And thanks for the info,Mazatleco. Bassist are buying "Badasses" like 10 cent cheeseburgers. I guess once they are gone...then i "guess" that's it. I wanted a "grooved" Badass II(for my SX P-bass...)but everyone was out of them,so i settled for a "Gotoh" 201.

I heard the same thing. Also heard that Leo was kind of persnickety and wasn't going to sell the license for the bridges to anyone, preferring to let the BA go by the wayside when he's gone.

I can't believe that the most popular replacement bridge ever made for Fender's would go away. My guess is that after Leo is gone and the patents run out, somebody will start making the bridges again. I guess I'll pick up a couple now before it's too late.

FWIW I find the pre-grooved BA's not as articulate as the non grooved but that's just me I guess.

Keep Low

No prob, true on your statement that they selling like "10 cent cheeseburgers" but good call on the gotoh 201 good quality bridge for a lower price.

I use a small v file from HD. Install bridge and strings and mark barrels with felt pen.

I use nut files...expensive but I prefer them for working on nutslots anyway.

It's a wonder Fender doesn't buy it.

what really makes them so good? high mass, ungrooved, fully adjustable. other than that, its not rocket science, no? I'd have to think this is somthing that will be copied (offshore?) and sold for cheap, if not already.

aside from
being a "badass", is there something else to it that makes this design ingenious?

(sorry for the mini-hijack)

The new ones won't have the same "vintage mojo"!

They are popular because were the first major aftermarket high mass bridge replacement (they were originally popular for changing out Gibson bridges even before Fender) that I can remember hearing about.

I tried to buy a badass II from that site a few weeks ago and they said they didn't have any in stock. They'll give you a refund eventually, but you should probably email them.

Ya ebay or craigslist (private sellers) are probably your only route, I've been hunting all over the net for over a month and can't find any retailers with them in stock.

Any news on this? I have a buddy that works for Fender (several of their basses use BadAss bridges, stock). He said he's heard nothing about Leo Quan shutting it down, but added that doesn't mean it isn't so.

It strikes me as strange that the most popular replacement bridge in the industry would just cease production and disappear. If there wasn't the desire to continue ownership, would not the business be worth selling to Hipshot or Gotoh or whatever? You'd think the competition would be in a bidding war!
