Is this a lethal crack?

I am looking at this VMJ on craigslist, and the seller says it has a crack in the neck. He sends me a pic, and the wood is split at the first fret. Looks like a broken truss rod maybe? The inlay also appears to be cracked.

Here's a pic. What do you think?

Looks frightening to me. I wouldn't spend my money on it.

Yeah that's what I figured. If it were cosmetic, I would rock it. As it stands though, that neck is firewood.

The rest of the bass might be worth picking up if I lived closer. 125 for the whole bass, not bad.

Depends on if it goes through to the neck itself or just the fingerboard. The fingerboard can be repaired/replaced easily enough.
The neck would probably be as easy to re-bond.

Inlay looks to be dented inward causing the crack in the fingerboard. I doubt it's truss rod related. Looks like some kind of compression crack. Maybe something banged into it while in a gig bag or something heavy fell on it or it fell over and smacked the corner of an amp cab or...?
Is that the only pic you have or can you get pics of the back of the neck, too?
