Lightest weight Tuner Available

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

This is my first post on TalkBass
and I feel embarrassed that
my first post here is a question...

Anyway, I have a Warwick Bass
that suffers a little but of neck dive (just a little bit).

I heard that changing the tuner might help a little bit,
so I'd like to know if Gotoh RES-O-LITE series tuners
or Hipshot Ultralite tuners are lighter in comparison.

Which Hipshot Ultralite will fit my Warwick?

1.) HB6Y - 3/8'' Y Key Ultralite
http://store.hipshotproducts.com/car...t_detail&p=321

2.) HB6Y - 1/2'' Y Key Ultralite
http://store.hipshotproducts.com/car...t_detail&p=323

Also, which Gotoh RES-O-LITE will fir my Warwick?
(GOTOH has so many variations.
Are they all the same but different colour?
But there are colour options on all of them)

1.) GB350
http://ssl.bfit.jp/~jby/product_info...roducts_id=236

2.) GB707
http://ssl.bfit.jp/~jby/product_info...roducts_id=235

3.) GB720
http://ssl.bfit.jp/~jby/product_info...products_id=66

4.) GB720B
http://ssl.bfit.jp/~jby/product_info...roducts_id=234

5.) GB720W
http://ssl.bfit.jp/~jby/product_info...roducts_id=233

Thank you for reading, comments, and recommendation.

Warwick tuners are gorgeous. Also, most basses will have a little bit of neck dive. Usually, the closer the upper horn is to the 12th fret, usually the better. Of course, the Thumb is going to be a bit different to the Corvette. I've heard the Hipshots are really great if you HAVE to switch the Warwicks out though. I'll take your Warwicks if you don't like them. ;]

I love my Warwick.
I'd like to figure a way to make the bass less "horizontal" while standing up though =)

I just think that it would be well nice
if I can get the angle between sitting down and standing up as close as possible.

You could try a strap with a suede or rough back to it so it provides a bit of friction over your shoulder.

I played guitar for a while. One in particular that I have had pretty bad neck dive but a leather strap with a rough suede back cured it.

I'm using a suede leather strap too.

Problem is I have small shoulders,
so it looks funny with very thick strap...

The HB-6Y 3/8" keys are a perfect match. I installed them on both my Streamer Pro M and Streamer LX.

Does it improve that body-neck balance?
Is it lighter than the stock Warwick tuners, in your opinion?

Yes, improved the balance and they operate more smoothly than the stock Warwick Gotoh GB-7 tuners. The Hipshots are a little pricey but you're installing them on a Warwick so I'll assume you want the best.

Just got a reply from a Gotoh dealer.
It appears that GB350 is really light:

Weights of the Gotoh tuners:
----------------------------
GB350 : 40.0g
GB720 : 64.4g
GB720W : 64.4g
GB720B : 64.4g
GB707 : 68.5g
----------------------------

I wonder if Hipshot ultralite is lighter than 40g.

I would go with the Gotoh's myself, though I never realized the price on these tuners were so expensive! I bought UltraLites for my 5 string P bass and it was only $119 for all five from Best Bass Gear .com

Best thing about Hipshot is that if you ever botch an install or adjustment (...and I have), you can get replacement parts directly from the company with a simple phone call or e-mail. Come to think of it, I've never paid for a single part or postage. You'll see the Hipshot name appear frequently when addressing superior customer service here on TB.

Well, where the heck are you then?!? Wherever is is, they apparently have computers and teach English in the schools. We might be able to help you out if you can't snag the components locally.

Right now I'm in Canada,
But I'm leaving in a month to Taiwan,
then Hong Kong, then back to Canada.

I think I will go for Gotoh, since I'll be in Asia for a while.
Besides, not trying to be fuzzy thinker,
Gotoh GB350 (40g) is lighter than Hipshot Ultralite (44g).
It seems that I can get a more promising result from choosing Gotoh.

Also...
Gotoh GB350 x5 = 200g
Hipshot Ultralite x5 = 220g

Difference in weight is 20g, which is half of a Gotoh GB350 tuner.

So... yea :x

Both are excellent choices and availability is certainly a factor as is price. Post some pics upon mod completion.

Sperzel, should be the lightest, IIRC.
