Which lightweight tuners for Squier VM Jaguar?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys

I've got a new Squier VM Jaguar bass - I dig it, and I think it will be at least my main rehearsal bass because of the weight. I'd like to take it one step further, and help the neck dive with some lightweight tuners.

I've been searching the archives, and there is a ton of info on ultralight tuners, but some of it is contradictory, or consists of people debating the merits of products they haven't tried.

Gotoh and Hipshot both seem to be highly regarded - I'll probably go with Gotoh as most opinions have them slightly lighter, and better quality, but they both seem good.

My actual question is, does anyone know which specific model will fit on a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar?

Thanks

I should know - I just measured it a few days ago. The stock tuners are 9/16"

Gotoh has tuners which look like they would fit, but the screw hole spacing is a few mm off. Since I can't find any direct no-drilling replacement, I ordered a set of Gotoh GB350s - they are supposed to be the lightest. Won't match the stock cloverleaf, but that's OK.

Think it's the same size for the short scale Jaguar?

I have the short sale Jag and it balances nicely, The tuners seem fine.,,I just installed Labella Deep Talkin' flats on mine today.

Do I assume correctly the OP has the long scale Jag? Otherwise I don't think there would be a balance issue.

Yeah - I think he's talking about a 34.

I don't perceive any significant neck dive on the short scale, but after using it for a while, I'm not liking the tuners. I want something better.

Yep, I have the 34" original block inlay one.

I wouldn't call the neck dive significant - it is slight. But one of the reasons I bought this bass was because it is light - easy on the back for long rehearsals. Figured I may as well make it a little lighter, and cure the neck dive too!
