A little Concerned.

I got my Ibanez Soundgear a while back from my bass teacher, I just threw some strings on, and it was ready to play. Now my concern is a crack in the neck. It runs from the bottom screw of the A string tuning key to at least halfway between the nut and the first fret. I was wondering if there is anyway possible to find a new neck for my bass because it's got one, maybe two simple problems, but the neck is the one I fear the most. Help please?

It's impossible to comment further without any pics to show the problems.

Take your bass to a local store with a repair shop and ask for a qualified opinion. Other than that, a new neck is always an option.

Replacing a neck is the most extreme and expensive solution. Almost always, it can be repaired.

A qualified person should be able to fix that for you.

Take off the strings and tuners and work some quality carpenters glue into the crack. Clamp it up and once dry, put it back together. It'll be fine.

You might want to drill a pilot hole for that tuner screw. It looks like that's what started the crack in the first place.

Or get a good tech to fix it. It'll be cheaper than a new neck.

Alright, thank you guys. I was looking around and necks and was finding them for more than a new bass all together.

id try glue before anything else. if it is not effecting the playability, then it isnt too bad.
I had a pbass years ago and it had a crack in the neck behing the first fret. didnt effect anything, i just filled it with glue which stopped it getting bigger.

Just glue it right the FIRST time. Make sure to get wood glue (NOT super glue, not Gorilla glue, use either white glue or Titebond) worked well into the crack, then clamp for 24 hours. Strip all the hardware off the headstock, and as noted above, make sure that all screw holes have been pilot drilled and that all tuner holes are big enough - forcing the tuner ferrules into the holes can crack a headstock.

If you screw it up and don't get enough glue in it, or fail to clamp it, you make the repair much more difficult for whoever ends up getting stuck with fixing your errors.
