Location for a thumb rest?..

I have a G&L SB-2 and i want to put a thumb rest on it.. I have an idea of where abouts to place the rest, but am wondering if anyone knows a means of temporary placement before I goes committing to drilling a hole?..

ie.. a known glue or 2-sided tape that can have its residue completely removed from a pickguard?.

thx

I used double sided tape and then scotch tape over the top of the thumb rest and boy am I glad I did. The spot I chose seemed ideal but turned out to be wrong for me. Once I started playing I realized my fingers were hitting the rest so I moved it an inch to the left.
No issues with residue or gunk.

If your location is near a pickguard screw, get a longer screw and use the existing hole for a trial spot. You may get lucky and find the perfect spot and need no drilling. I've actually used just one hole and tightened it real good and it stayed in place.
