Longhorn tuner replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I'm building a project bass using an old Kustom K 200 guitar body and a new Dano-Longhorn neck. I'm really liking the neck but I'm not too thrilled about the tuning keys that came with it and I want to replace them. My questions are:
1.) Has anyone had any experience with swapping/switching the keys on this neck?
2.) If so what type of tuners/keys did you choose?

It's pretty obvious that there's not a lot of room on the headstock for larger keys and I don't mind enlarging the existing holes a little (although there's not a lot of room for that) so, I'm leaning toward a small profile Y key like the Schaller M4 or a Grover counterpart...any advice is highly appreciated, Thanks dminer

I prefer the OEM Dano tuners on the RIs but I have seen where others have used standard enclosed 2x2 sets such as Grover 144BC or similar which required reaming the tuner holes larger.
