Look at this Nasty Bridge on my P lyte

Sign in to disble this ad
Help! I need a replacement bridge that will fit the P lyte I am trying to get operable. The bridge I have now has thick goop all over it, is very discolored and is just gross... I have looked over the HipShot A, but it has 3 holes, made to cover a 5 hole... any ideas?

(i am almost certain there is 20 year old bbq sauce on it)

Toss it in a bag of denatured alcohol or vinegar and let it soak. It'll clean it right up.

Yeah, that's pretty gnarly, but if you're just trying to restore it to functioning order, at least for the time being, it wouldn't hurt to just clean the sucker.

It's rad.

That's part of the soul of the instrument. Clean it and enjoy its experiences.

Gotoh 201 for nice and inexpensive. Hipshot for more expensive and fast top load instead of thru holes in back of bridge.

I owned a Lyte Deluxe for a few years with basically the same bridge. Only difference was I could string mine thru the body as well as top load it. Yours can only be top loaded. It's an awesome bridge and if it was me, I'd keep it and just clean it up. Forget about the gold plating issue. It's got great solid saddles and a grooved base plate that's also got stops on each side for lateral movement and the base plate itself is fairly heavy cast metal for decent coupling with the body and sustain. You get it clean and functioning properly and it'll do you good for many more years and gigs. If the adjusting screws for intonation work OK and the set screws for height are OK, the only other thing you might need to find some are new mounting screws for it but that should be no problem. )-(

Agreed, IMO it's the best bridge Fender ever put on a bass. I have one just like it but in chrome on my J Bass Plus from the early '90s.

If you decide to relace the bridge, I would reccommend this ABM lock down bridge. It has the 4 hole mounting and a small contact area for the string to give it a good tone.

Use a dental pick or other fine-tipped instrument to clean out the screw head before attempting to remove it. clean the bridge and it will be fine.

I have that exact bridge on my Fender. I'll take it off your hands if you don't want it.

Clean it before you buy a new bridge. Don't succumb to the GAS.

Pilgrim suggests using a dental pick to clean the screw out. This is a great idea. Dental picks are super cheap and surprisingly useful.

If you don't want to go out and buy one of those, you can also probably use a soldering iron with a fine tip. Just don't let it heat up the metal too much. The soldering iron should melt/soften whatever is stuck in there.

If it's 30 year old hash you might get a little high

I have a Badass II on my P Lyte, straight bolt on. Apparently they're hard to find right now. I would keep that bridge though, its a nice one. The only reason I changed mine was because I had an extra BA laying around.
