Looking at building a Bass, a few questions.

Hi everyone, lately I've been wanting to build myself a bass, and I wanted an expert opinion before I went and spent all my money on a new lawn ornament.

First of all, what sorts of stores sell supplies? Fretboards, necks, tuners, etc. All the basics. Buying them online isn't a problem either, any really good sites for that?

Another question is about Pick-ups. I know almost nothing about pick-ups, what are some good sounding ones? I know its a fairly general question, but I'm clueless. I'd like a Jazzier pick-up, if that helps.

Thanks for helping a bass-building noobie.

Start by buying this and read it until you know it all and have done all the design work needed before you start buying tools and parts.

It doesn't hurt to hang out in the luthier's corner and read the build threads to learn how some of us do some techniques. Be sure to have read the above mentioned book before you start asking lots of newb questions that likely won't get any answers for.
