Looking for Hipshot Ultralites (licensed)

Sign in to disble this ad
I would be thankful if anyone could give me a hint on this: I need to replace 2 out if 5 tuners on my bass, Hipshot Ultralites (licensed) - like the ones on the korean and japanese Laklands. All I could find was Hipshot original (Like on Lakland USA) but it is said that they are a bit different in tension. Couldn't find them on Hipshot's official site.
Does anybody know where I can order a few?

Thanks.

Not sure if this is what you want, but you can buy singles here:

or here:

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dave, but these are Hipshot original, and they are different in tension.

This is a long-shot but you might consider contacting Roger Sadowsky at www.sadowsky.com. He uses the Hipshot Lic'd components on the Metro series. Yes, they are indeed different. The male / female thread relationship between the tuner body and nut / ferrule is opposite plus the mounting diameter is slightly larger with the US made components.

Call Jason @ Hipshot directly since they make most of Laklands bridges and tuners. They've always been great to deal with.

Thanks everyone!
I also got an answer from Lakland and they can sell me some.
However, I will contact Hipshot.

I can't find any information. Why? Are they a different gear ratio? What's the point? Why licensed?

The post / retainer assemblies on the "lic'd" Hipshots are slightly narrower in diameter than the US models as are the post holes on the Metro series' headstock. I upgraded my Metro to the US Hipshots and found myself having to enlarge the holes (a few swipes with some sandpaper) and soaping the retainers for a proper fit. It wasn't a big deal, really.

Wow, that's very strange. I just can't imagine why the licensed would be any different spec than the regular hipshot tuners. Usually proprietary hardware is made so it can't be replaced by other competitors, but hipshot is top of the line already and would not be likely to be replaced by any other brand.

I'm concerned with the opposite problem. I'm worrying that if I buy the licensed tuners they will be loose in my normal (Ibanez) headstock.

Don't know either but keep in mind that the USA and Lic'd are not mirror images of each other (read post #4). I have a single Hipshot Lic'd 3/8" cloverleaf-type tuner that you may try on for size, if you wish. Just mail it back to me when you're done.
