Looking for replacement neck for Fender Precision Plus

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a replacement neck for my early 90s Fender Precision Plus. The current neck has an unfortunate dead spot around the 9th or 10th fret on the D string. Here are the specs:

9.5" Radius (241 mm)
22 Frets
34" Scale Length (864 mm)
1.625" Width at Nut (41.3 mm)
Rosewood fretboard
Preferably American made

Apparently these are the same specs as the neck on the American Deluxe. Anyone have something like this available for sale or can recommend where I can find one (other than eBay)?

Thanks.

I personally would not change a whole neck for one dead spot. There is no guarantee that another will not have a dead spot somewhere else, I would just adjust my playing around the dead spot.

Most basses have at least one dead spot and some have "wolf" spots as well - notes that are significantly louder than the rest. As joeyl says, changing the neck is no guarantee that you won't just shift the problem elsewhere - like the 5th fret on the G string which is where the dead spot on a Precision is normally found!!.

You'll find similar necks on other basses from the same era, such as the "cowpoke" PJ bass, the Prodigy Bass and the JP90 bass. Hopefully, this broadens your options.

If you are absolutely intolerant of dead spots, I suggest you look into a graphite replacement neck. They're not cheap but they don't suffer from dead spots and they'll never go out of adjustment due to temperature or humidity changes. However, a well designed, well constructed maple neck should have very few noticeable dead spots. Warmoth or USA Custom Guitars can make you a very high quality neck along those lines.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "dead spot?"
