i have disassembled my 6 string resonator and want to use the resonator and retrofit it to an older acoustic bass that I have. Has anyone done anything like this or can you foresee any problems I may have>

that's a big project with a doubtful outcome.

a resonator guitar is built completely differently than a regular acoustic. the resonator is actually more like a speaker cabinet, with thick plywood construction and strategically placed tuned ports for low end. only the cone is supposed to vibrate.

the result of improperly tuned speaker cabinets is invariably weak low end, so you might end up spending lots of time and effort to get a thin, bad-sounding instrument.

Hi.

^That pretty much sums it up.

No reason to give up though.

What's the worst that can happen? You spend some time, create quite an unique thread in TB and the result (resonator bass) is less than optimal, but still playable.

Sounds like a win to me.

well heres the thing....the bass is a cheap old johnson acoustic that sounds pretty clunky as it is. I was checking the construction on the 6 string resonator and there is indeed a thick wood border that fits around the resonator cone inside the body. I am not concerned about tuned ports as I will be drilling holes like in the older ovation acoustic and trying to tune it that way.
