Loose machine heads - help!

Sign in to disble this ad
My tuning pegs (machine heads) are a little loose. Upon inspection I have found that:
  • The threads that screw the top half to the bottom, clamping the machine head to the headstock is slightly sheered. This means when you tighten the nut on the top side of the headstock, it tightens so far, and then 'jumps' back to loose. You therefore can't over tighten the top nut
  • The screws at the back dot hold the tuner perfectly

Now I cant afford new tuners, and although the current ones are still there, and reasonably sturdy, I want them rock hard sturdy to keep my tuning 100% precise.

Is therew any way to fit this?

Been there, done that. I've run across several Gotoh-type tuners that have been stripped, they act exactly as you've described. I don't put a lot of effort into them; I replace them with Hipshots. Why don't you place a WTB: Tuners thread? A lot of TBers, like myself, have cast-offs stuck in junk drawers. I gave a set away just to make room....for more junk!
