Loose slot on nut

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi--My son just changed from flatwounds to rotosound rounds on his Fender American J-Bass and I noticed that the A string buzzes and it looks like it's loose in the nut. They're standard gauge (.045-.105) and I'd like to know what to do to tighten things up short of installing a new nut. Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks

sometimes a fret buzz can be attributed to the string riding high on the tuners, if the a-string is wound so that the it comes off the tuner at the top then you might try to redo it.

on my cruddy instruments whenever that happens i take a very small piece of tissue or paper and put it under the string at the nut and it is usually more snug, this is not a good solution because 1.)it can make the string ride higher on the fretboard and 2.)because it is just a halfassed cheapo way to fix a simple problem.

Thanks a lot. I'll check the windings.
