loose truss rod

Sign in to disble this ad
I tried my wife's bass today, something I never do.
There neck was bowed a little so I went to adjust the truss rod (First time ever on this bass) and if I wanted to take off some bow and turn the truss rod counter clock wise it was completely loose. If I turn it clock wise, after a few turn I had some tension, but it would just make the problem worst.

Is there anything I can do to take the bow off the neck?

I hope so!
If it require more then that I will either bring it to my luthier or send it back on warranty. But since the luthier who built the bass is in the USA I would prefer to have it fixed it.

Thank you for your help!

Hi.

Usually when the bow needs to be straightened, You turn the nut clockwise. More bow, You turn counterclockwise.

If it's the opposite in Your case (sounds to me like that), the truss rod is either defective or works backwards (not unheard of).

In any case, if a setup can't be done with the TR, I'd send it back or get instructions from the luthier.

Regards

Just did it, you are right!
For some reason I was sure it was the other way.

Problem fixed, thank you!

You're welcome.

Good to hear there wasn't anything wrong after all.
