Loosening Truss Rod

Sign in to disble this ad
While loosening my Geddy Lee truss rod, I reach a moment in which its all the way loose, and if I continue giving turns nothing happens, its like floating in the air with any tension but the bass was nicely adjust.

Does something happens if I leave the truss rod where even with my nails y can make it turn because it has nothing of pressure??? Or should I get back a half right turn so the truss rod is again tight?

It will vibrate when you play if you leave no tension.

Why did you release the tension?

If there's no strings on the neck, then there's no problem with the truss rod being all the way loose. With strings on, it's probably pulling up like a son of a witch.

True. You want a little bit of tension on it to keep it from rattling.

I have a seen a few five/seven lam necks that will hold the right relief without the truss under tension, but I never seen a Fender neck in normal conditions behave that way.

If you destring a bass for a long time then back off the rods. But you don't have to completely loosen them.

Yes, the things was I go vacations 4 months, and my bass i leave it without one string, and just because of dont having one it bow in a rainbow way, so I have to loose it.

I did half a turn one day, and it still was rainbow bow,so the next day while trying the second quarter half, was already all the way loose, so I return just a little until it again remains on tension, but I think it really needs a little bit more of loosing because now it is " planar, plane, flat " I dont know the proper word for it.

So what should I do now that I cant loose it no more?

I'd put the strings back on and tighten the truss rod back up!!. Leaving your Bass for 4 months won't do it any harm. I left my two basses for about 5 years without playing them and they came oput of the cases more or less in tune!!.
