You are you LA-based TB'ers using for bass work? I need a fret-filing and a little intonation work done. I've lost touch with my old contacts and was looking for referrals...

John Kallas. Every old bass I've had him work on comes back feeling brand new.

Eric is great from what I hear.

My fave is Andy Brauer:

Has done some amazing work for me, from simple setups to custom-wound pickups, etc. Nicest guy ever too.

Tina Wood at Bass Exchange in Van Nuys.

Top-level work.

I know the 'reviews' for the 'store' run from 0-10, with not much in the middle. But my experience is a 10. Deal directly with Tina, as much as possible. She is good. Everyone else there is somewhat indifferent.

Plus, she's way better looking than any of the aforementioned dudes.

My all-time favorite Bass Tech is Pat Wilkins in Van Nuys, CA. Pat is famous for spectacular finishes and can do everything from set-ups to building an entire bass from scratch. Welcome to Pat Wilkins™ Custom Guitars & Finishes

These are all top notch techs/luthiers. I've had really good experiences with Eric Chaz, Andy Brauer, and Tina Wood over the years. I will add to the list my two favorites for all things with frets: Mike Tuttle (Custom Guitars by Michael Tuttle, Best Frets by Michael Tuttle, Michael Tuttle Guitars, Tuttle Guitars) in Valencia and Sammy Sanchez in Glendora. They are fret gurus.

Well, Nordstrand collect the instrument in North Hollywood once a week. Turn around is generally a week (depends on the job needed)…

Greg Coates. He splits his time between Future Music in LA and World of Strings in Long Beach... one of them is probably close to you. Good guy. Knows his stuff and his prices are reasonable.
