Low B string noise?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody, I just got my new bass (Fame Baphomet 5) and I'm loving it.There's one problem though: when I'm playing on the higher strings the low B strings starts making noise ... humming, ringing, whatever you guys call it (english is not my main language). It's really, really annoying. I asked a lot of people but nobody really has and answer to prevent this, I raised my action a bit but that didn't help either. I can leave my thumb on that string when playing (to mute it) but that's uncomfortable to play on the higher strings and it makes me loose a lot of speed.

I'm desperate, and any help is greatly appreciated!

Mmm, maybe it's your technique. Can u upload a video with u playing so we can both hear the noise and see how u play while it sounds?

If you normally rest the pad/tip of your thumb on the E string you can mute the low B with the side of your thumb. I don't play a 5 so I can't think of anything else to suggest.

I already do that, so this problems only occurs when playing the D and G strings. Or whenever I'm slapping ...

I don't have a cam so I can't upload a video, but I think I have a pretty standard technique. I use my index and middle fingers to play and rest my thumb on the strings, when I go up and down the strings my thumb goes along. So for example when I'm playing the G string, my thumb is on the D string.

Thanks for the help, anyway!

It's not that loud but it's really disturbing. For example when I stop playing, there's still some noise and then I have to stop the B string from producing that noise. You can hear it on the background most of the time, not as loud as the notes I'm actually playing but still audible. I'm not sure what strings they are, they seem like the average roundwound strings.

5- and 6-strings require a more sophisticated muting technique than 4Žs... some people use their forearm for muting, others use spare fingers (not like extras, but the ones not plucking...). practise, and youŽll get comfortable with your fiver...
