Lowering the nut after defretting

Sign in to disble this ad
how do i go about doing this?

and i do it until i get the same mwah sound on open as i do with fretted notes?

if possible, could someone provide a measurement regarding the height? and the height is measured from board to bottom of string right?

i know theres a search function, but theres 11 pages of topics regarding lowering nuts, and didnt really understand the little bits a gleaned from teh assorted threads

if theres a good existing one, by all means just link me

I'd think most will recommend taking it to someone with fretless experience for this. As far as string height - I like no more than 2mm (about a business card). It is accomplished with files made for this purpose.

I just sanded the bottom of the nut down, which ought to work if you don't radically change the radius of the board. You have to be careful to keep it square, but it was better than springing for a set files, since I'd only use them once, and they're not cheap. You should be looking for about .010-.015" clearance at the nut under the strings.
