I like a really low action. I like the nut on my basses to be as low as possible without fret buzz on the open strings.

What are some of the "little tricks" you guys use to prevent going to low???

First off, measure the space between the string and first fret with the string fretted at the third. Go from there.

Check. File. Recheck.

"Check" : Hold string down between F2 &3, tap string for "tink"
between nut & F2.

Suggestion: do above w/neck adjusted straighter than normal.

When you think you can make one or two more light passes with the file to make it ever so perfect...STOP.
