Luthiers in SE Michigan?

I was wondering if anyone knew a good luthier in the Southeast Michigan area.

I'm looking to have my bass defretted, but I'm weary of doing it myself and am willing to pay for such a service.

thanks!

Mike Koontz @Koontz guitar repair in Ferndale.
He built the first couple of Bootsy Space Basses back in the day and is reguarded as one of the best in the Metro Detroit area.
But his wait times are long. So if it's your only bass, you may want to look elsewhere.

Mark Balish in Berkley- not sure of the name of the shop (it's next to the old Music Stand shop on 12 Mile Rd). I'll find out for you if you would like. PM me tomorrow. Berkley Guitar works maybe??
He's done some fret work for me on my Fodera and did an amazing job. And he is quickly becoming the go to guy for repairs in town.

Tom Palarito- Out near Ann Arbor. Again, I can get you his info.
Roger Sadowsky trusts him to do warranty repair work for him. What does that tell you about the quality of work he does.

Tim @ the Music Castle in Royal Oak.
He does all of my set up work for me. Ask him for the Mike Fredericks set-up and your bass will come back with low action and not a buzz any where around.
But I'm not sure if he would do a de-fret.

I second the vote for Koontz. I had no idea he was involved with the Space basses though! Cool. Anyway, Mike has done a lot of work for me and I can assure you is well worth the wait time. He has done neck refrets and refinishes for me and they are much better than new when he's done.

I've been having all my work done by Jim Rawlings in Berkeley for the last couple years. I like Koontz a lot, but couldn't get in in a timeframe that worked for me.

Tell him Matt Walsh sent ya.

From what I've heard Mike Koontz is good. However, if you're anywhere near the Ypsi / Ann Arbor area, Tom Pellerito is an awesome luthier. He does work for Earl Klugh, Bob Seger's band and a bunch of others. PM me for his phone number.
