Finger oil. Clean it off every once in a while. Nothing else is required.

I use valve oil (trumpet/trombone, etc) which is cheap and easily available. I do a quick light rub on and then buff it off for my '59 P-Bass neck. You don't want it to soak in, and I only do it occassionally. Works for me...

I prefer dunlops deep conditioner for fretboards as a much better product then lemon oil. I'll give fretbaord a light treatment when I first get a bass or guitar. Then about once to max of twice a yr after that. Just light treatment and wipe off after half minute.

Its all down to what works for you.Everybody here has a different way to maintain wood BUT most of the time ive noticed bassists going for Pure products.Others use Fret Dr., Dunlop Fretboard Conditioner or Kyser Lem-Oil.
Me i use 'Australian Orange Oil'.Ive done a heap of reading on this topic & came to the conclusion that its the best thing. They have blended a mix of 40% Orange Oil fresh cold pressed peel (I know this because they emailed me) & 60% Mineral Oil.Now the Orange Oil cleans the fretboard & the Mineral Oil nourishes the Fretboard so you are infact getting two things done in one go.
Plus its smells so great & its not sticky after !!
