Maintaining my Washburn Custom Shop basses

I have managed to snag a Washburn XB925 with a zebrawood top, and an XB926 with a nice flame maple top, but they're kind of grungy and need to be cleaned and oiled or waxed or something. These are the ones that were made in the Chicago custom shop with the custom Bartolini electronics, etc. They seem to have some sort of lo-sheen oil finish, which has been rubbed off in places.

Steel wool? Virtuoso cleaner and polish?

There's a certain amount of crud that's kind of ground into the ash bodies, and the sides of the neck.
