Major Clicking problem!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ibanez with active electronics and it's got some of the loudest feedback I've ever heard!!! Even at low volume. The wierd thing is that if I'm touching the strings the clicking isn't as strong and if I let go it Gets louder again! How can I fix this?

It sounds like you may have a grounding issue. The noise decreases when you touch the strings because you are closing the circuit, or grounding it.

For the first step, if you know anything about wiring, you should open up the bass and look for disconnected or frayed wires. If you don't, you can take it to a shop around you. They should be able to easily verify if it's the ground, and it should be a simple and inexpensive fix.

The Ibanez site has all the wiring diagrams available here: http://www.ibanez.com/support/wiringdiagrams

My Ibanez was a little hummy. It has a wire going from the bridge to the ground of the electronics. This wire was mounted poorly between the wood and the backside of the bridge. They hadn't even sanded off the black paint , so there was no real contact. After having improved this, the hum was gone.

Yea when I read in the other post about the ground under the bridge, I instantly remembered that it was kind short when I removed my bridge for inspection. Will test it now!!!

This comes up here frequently. When you touch the strings and the noise diminishes it's not because you grounded the bass, it's that the bass grounded you! The noise reduction when you touch the strings is a sure indication that your bridge is gounded properly.

Noise reduction in this case can get darn fussy - no simple answers.
