Marcus Miller J-bass S CURVE HELP?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have tried straightening the neck on this beast to no avail. Looking down the neck I can see a hump around the 12th fret area. Action is way to high to avoid fret buzz on anything above the 12th. In order to counter act this, I have to overtighten the truss rod so it has backbow. Of course this transfers the obnoxious amounts of buzz to everything below the 12th.

How much would it cost to fix this? Is it even worth it? I am considering selling it since I want a Stingray Classic 4 anyway.

If the hump isn't TOO bad, a comprehensive fret levelling of the entire neck might fix the problem. Not too expensive at all.

If its too much of a hump, there might not be any fret left. In that case you can have the frets removed, the fretboard re-planed, then refretted. Unfortunately that's a bit expensive.

I had this done to a guitar of mine. My luthier called it a de-hump. Ha!

It's so frustrating. I have had nothing but problems with musical instruments these past few years.
