I used one for a Jazz Bass and I really loved the look. However, it requires constant polishing because all the fingerprints, sweats, and other playing goobers show up more on these and it looks terrible.

The one I used was made of a Plexiglas material but it still had a true mirror look to it. As for a metal one,it shouldn't create any ground problems unless a pickup wire or some other wire touched it, In fact, it would act as a shield for any wires routed underneath it just as a Jazz Bass metal control plate shields all the wires in the control cavity. If you recall the early P-Basses, they had metal pickgards (anodized).

If you want to order one, try this website and they can make one for you.

Best thing to do if you want to use the pickgard site I posted is send them a tracing of your pickgard with all the screws holes and they will make an exact copy since there is size differences of Fender throughout the years.

Nope, it's actually preferable. No need to apply shielding to the pickguard.
