Metric Box Truss Rod Wrench--Where to Buy?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I recently bought a Yamaha bass that has a nut on the end of the truss rod, and requires a box truss rod wrench, instead of the usual allen wrench affair. Kind of looks like a metal corn cob pipe.

Allparts is the only place that seems to have them, but they have 7 and 8 mm sizes, this looks like a 9 or maybe a 10. This would certainly be a metric size, correct?

Any advice where I might get one?

I would guess that if you went to the hardware store that they would be able to hook you up with something. It will probably be cheaper than getting it shipped, too.

If you purchased the instrument at a store they should have or be able to get the wrench for you. If you bought it from a private party, your first resource is still the local brick and mortar. But offer to pay for it. Or buy some strings and ask.

My two large hardware stores don't have anything that will fit. It has to be just the right depth, and thin walled. Sockets are too big, nut drivers not the right angle.

here's a link to allparts box truss wrenches:

Yamaha should be able to help, I guess.

I buy them from the hardware store and grind the outside down to fit the hole. It doesn't take long. I've used a small grinding wheel mounted in an electric drill.
