Lightbulb Mex. Fender Jazz to Jazz/Precision Combo Bass

Ok so this if my first venture modifying a bass guitar. I tried looking online to find out some information, but none was really available for this topic.

The buzz on this bass is getting a little obnoxious, and i am too cheap to buy a new bass, but creativity is on my side.

I have looked into and decided on two pick ups:

Delano PC 4 HE/M2 (neck) similar to P- Bass $100
Delano JC 4 HE/M2 (Bridge) similar to J- Bass $100

I will need a new pickguard obviously, but my main questions are...

Can the body handle/fit the modification and will it affect the tonal qualities of the wood? (what about the paint)
Will the distance from the neck need to be adjusted to match the distance on a P-Bass?
Are there any blue brints of measurements for each bass?

thank you so much for your help! i will check back and respond regularly

Jason

Why not buy something like hum-canceling pickups. There are split-coil Barts which fit right into J pickup routs.

i am considering possibly doing this, but i was trying to get 2 birds with 2 stone =P
if all else fails i will sacrifice the advantages of a combo, and get a decent jbass set up

any other opinions?

Fender has done it. You might see if you can order a pickguard for this bass, and then copy that. If you mount it to the body and trace the pickup's outline, it'll give you an easy guideline to follow to route the P pickups.
