Mexi Jazz bass knobs

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Mexican jazz bass and I was wondering if the knobs are 6mm or a different size. Also, I heard that all fender knobs are the same size. Is this correct? I want to replace them but I don't want to spend money if they aren't going to fit.

That depends, MIM Jazz basses used to use a strat style knob...but I think the size was always the same which should be your standard CTS sized knob. I'm not 100% sure about all Fender knobs being the same size. Are you looking at getting push on or set screw? Set screw will pretty much fit anything. Are your pots split shaft or solid? If they're solid you'll have to get set screw anyway in which case any set screw knob will work as far as I know. Somebody clarify?

The later ones, say 2004 and after, have solid shaft, 1/4" pots, or so I have often found to be the case. Earlier models (some) used 6mm split-shaft. This is not a hard/fast rule, but a very general one as a result of having dealt with the pot/knob issue on numerous MIM projects. As they so often say here, "Your Mileage May Vary..."
