Smile Where Do I get replacement Tuning Machines w/ screw in bushings/no extra drillingl

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an MIA Highway One Precision. I noticed that when I was finished putting new strings on; on the "D" and "G" string pegs, the bushing that surrounds the peg has tilted toward the neck slightly.

**edit** where can I get replacement tuners that have screw in bushings? and no drilling

by "collar" I guess you mean peghead bushings.
sounds like your tuning pegs arent tightened enough to the headstock.
check to see if the screws at the back of the headstock arent loose and tighten them if needed.

if however you have this type of machinhead:

thats a whole different story because the bushing is screwed to the rear plate and is applying symetrical preassure so in this case you probably tuned an octave above regular tuning and the tension forced the machinehead into the wood in the direction of the pull.

your right bushing is probably a better term. These bushings don't seem to screw in , just press in and the have "teeth" around their circumference inside the peg hole. It's only on the D & G strings.....I am puzzled

that is strange, the tuning post looks same as the deluxe machinehead in my first reply but the bushing is a feature of the traditional Fender style tuners.

could you post pics of the tuning machine itself, at the back of the headstock?

Okay, I checked all the screws on the back and they are tight.
I pulled of the strings and retightened everything, it appears to have helped a tiny bit...but.....it is still there

I tried that, but it seems that the string tension pulls it out still

Sometimes the holes will become slightly enlarged from removing/inserting the bushings and they no longer fit snugly. What I have done in the past (will require removing the strings, machines & bushings) was to cut some tape (masking or electrical) into thin strips and wrap it around the base (the part that sits in the hole) of the bushing to give it a tighter fit. In any case, I've never seen them so loose that the string tension caused the bushings to start working their way out of the holes...

worst case - take the bushing out, put a tiny bit of CA glue on opposite sides of the outer diameter of the bushing's barrel then put it back in the hole.
that would keep it tight in place.

Hipshot(Ultra-lite) HB-6's are the closest you'll get for a clamping ferrule(with "no drilling"). They do have one (indexing) hole needed (to keep them from rotating in the hole) If you order them up, make sure to ask Jason for the .550 tall ferrules(he calls them nuts). They come with .600's (for clamping to the 5/8 thick headstock found on US deluxe-type, like the big Schaller pictured above) The Highway One neck has the 1/2" thick headstock. The suggestion to glue the ferrules in with CA is a good one, I've done that as a matter course for years. I use the medium-thick "Zap-a-gap" hobby brand. Here's Hipshot's site:

Have fun,
Josh
