MIJ P-Bass Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Been having trouble getting a low enough action on my P-bass. Took it to a tech and he said that the neck is warped. Kind of has a "S" shape. He said it is no uncommon for the MIJ fenders to develop this over time. He set it up as best as he could, filed down some frets and the nut etc. It is better but not great. I know I can get a replacement neck from Warmoth but does anyone know where I can get an MIJ Fender replacement neck?

Sorry about your neck problem. Can't live with it? If not, I suggest an Allparts neck which is made in Japan and is high quality. It's headstock is dead on with a Fender whereas Warmoth's is not. I've seen unfinished Allparts maple fretboards for about $139, and unfinished rosewood for $179 on eBay. Finished around $209, eBay. You can put an aftermarket Fender decal on the Allparts neck. You'll be the only one that knows, so to speak. You can finish a neck yourself with Birchwod Casey Gun Stock Oil or go to Loews and buy a spray can of nitro lacquer. Allparts neck are high quality. Be aware that the Jazz neck is 1 9/16 inch at the nut and the P neck is 1 5/8 (1 10/16) at the nut. The Allparts J neck is 1/16 wider than a Fender J and theAllparts P is 1/16 narrower than a Fender P. Will fit right into your MIJ Fender Body. Good luck!

thanks I will check the All Parts neck. This was my first bass and I hate to lose it. I would love to be able to keep as close to stock as possible.

Japanese fenders have a smaller neck heel. I think 2 3/8 instead of 2 1/4 (?).

From at least the mid 90s, MIJ Fenders have the same neck heal as USA. I have several MIJs and CIJs bodies with Allparts and Warmoth necks. Fit fine.

Ok, I stand corrected. Mine are 1993-94 models and have 60mm neck pockets.
