mim bridge vs squier affinity bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys, I've looked around for this andwer and haven't found anything. Anyways, I've been wondering if there's a big difference between the bridges found on mim basses and squier affinity basses. I'm trying to keep my squier jazz as stock-looking as possible and don't want to spend a whole lot of money on the bridge, so would it be worth it to upgrade from the stock bridge to one off of a standard mim? Thanks guys!

Which is an even easier and more economical way to upgrade, by swapping out just the saddles.

I've got an Affinity Jazz V and I love the bass, but absolutely hated that bridge. The saddles leaned to the left, and it scratched the plating on the bridge floorplate when adjusting the intonation.

I replaced it and am a whole lot happier. Just be prepared to redrill, because the hole pattern is different that anything else I found.

Here's what I used, and I'm very happy with the results: http://www.guitarpartscentral.com/mo...ve-string.html

This bridge is also used on Carvin 5000s, and Brubaker Brutes.

FYI:::

There are two Affinity 4-string bridges.

Some are wide, heavy and too big to fit under a bridge cover.

Others will fit, are thinner, less tall and less wide and will fit OK.

I have one of the fat-tall-wide ones and it will not accept the cover - but you are interested in the grooves that align the bridge adjusters - right?

This one is almost 3.4" wide - just thought you'd like to know - and I have not seen another Affinity P-bass with a bridge this wide.

I am seeing some misinformation.

MIM standards dont have threaded saddles , the 50s classic , 60s classic jazz and roadworns do. The standard MIM bridge is pretty much identical to an affinity , there maybe cheaper metal used but overall your not going to notice a difference.

The vintage threaded saddle type bridge , is nice i like em alot and a worthy upgrade.

On my '09 MiM J, I had horrible saddle height screws, soft alloyed junk. I dunno if I just got unlucky or what, but I swapped a BA on it anyways. I am not bashing Fender; I love Fender.

I have a somewhat limited number of Fender/Squiers of era: 1998-2010, but none of them have had bad Allen screws nor what I have seen as the propensity to unscrew themselves and drop the bridge barrels at all.

I like the design of the Affinity with the set screw grooves at the base of the bridge plate (the long side of the angle iron, so hated by some persons) - but seriously I don't rip on my strings hard enough to need them for alignment on anything I own.

The thread pitch and diameter were ok. It was the hex head that was really soft, and eventualy rounded.

A bit off topic, but I heard from somewhere (on a forum) that the later decade '04-09 Fenders lacked quality. Just a subjective observation on who ever made the statement. I myself don't have enough experience with this decades Fender's to judge.

Surferjoe, you have a real unique affinity , i have had 3 , currently still own one, 50$ craigslist find and a damn good bass, never seen one like yours in person. A rarebird indeed/

Loinmute- Most people agree that from about 2007 and up fender has been improving in quality , i can see people bashing around the 04 mark due to S1 switching but fender and fender brands like squier have really gone up in quality recently , its amazing to see the difference.
