Question MIM Jazz neck, walnut plug removal

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have searched around and cannot find a clear answer here. I have a MIM Jazz neck with a truss nut that is bottomed out. I need to remove the nut and add shims, but the walnut (if that's what it is) decorative plug prevents removal.

Has anyone removed this, and if so how did you go about it. I am a very competent tech, but not a luthier. If it cannot be done fairly easily I will take it to a local shop that I have used before. Would prefer to do it myself, but not at the expense of an otherwise good neck.

Thanks for any input. -FlyDog
