MIM mod questions.

I have an MIM sunburst jazz bass, I recently got a black pickguard for it. There are some other mods that I want to get for it. Which are:
1. Fender Thumb-rest. To be installed in the 70's position, so its actually a thumb rest.
2. Dimarzio DP123 Model J pickups. So I can have no noise and more thump.
3. Hipshot Bt7 extender key.

Now those don't seem to be unreasonable. But there are some other mods that I want to add for aesthetics, but I'm not sure if its possible.

Can I get a maple neck from allparts or warmoth to replace the stock rosewood one? I've heard that their necks won't fit an MIM bass. Is that true? I was hoping to eventually swap the neck for a maple one. 'cause maple neck + sunburst + black pickguard = one sexy bass.

The allparts necks fit the Fender neck pocket and as far as I know they are the same. There are a few different ones but these are for the most part the same size. Most fender necks are Maple just the fret board is different Rosewood or Maple.

you could also replace the bridge with a gotoh or BAII if you got the money

i would totally agree with therex in saying you should get a BAII, i love mine, and also, i would throw in an Audere preamp to compliment your new pickups.

i modded my MIM, with Basslines pickups, audere preamp, and a BAII and though it took me a while to get all the money for that stuff, i love my bass.

at a party the other day, my friend wanted me to try out his new 2008 standard jazz bass, and after one song, i couldn't keep playing it, i wanted my MIM! haha, the nation a bass was built in does not necessarily determine quality, i'll play my MIM til the day i die.

Another question for the replacement neck. Am I going to have to get different tuners? OR will the stock MIM machine heads fit?

My MIM sunburst Precision is a great axe. It's got a Basslines pickup, a BAII and a black pickguard. I bought it off another TBer for what the PUPs and bridge would have cost. It plays great and sounds awesome. Looks great with the replacement guard and chrome knobs. Everyone asks me if it's an old one. I'm very attached to it. Great gigging bass.

My experience has been they will fit. What you have to watch out for is the MIJ Fender necks - the mounting holes don't line up quite right with the MIM bodies.

Also, the MIJ reissue necks sometimes have 9/16" peghead holes for the tuners - the MIA and MIM ones are 11/16".

I have had no problem putting allparts necks on MIM bodies; the allparts necks don't have the tuner screw holes drilled, so you just need to make sure the peghead bushings go into an 11/16" hole. And of course drill the screw holes correctly
