I just traded for one and it's great, but I noticed the saddle height screws are stripped on my D string. It got me thinking about whether I should just fix what I have or replace the whole lot. I can't imagine the standard hardware is very good. Any suggestions?

Just replace the saddle.

for my money, some vintage-style threaded-rod replacement saddles are a great upgrade for the MIM basses, and can be had for less than the price of a set of strings.

they'll let you get the string spacing right with the pickup magnets, and they hold together with no gaps for better sustain and no sliding around.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. It looks like a great (cheap) upgrade.

+1,000,000
The adjustibility of the vintage threaded saddles makes the upgrade alone, worth it.
