MiM tuners, an upgrade?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Squier VM Jazz and I can't stand the stock tuners. I have a MiM P but I bought it used with Schallers on it so I have no experience with MiM tuners.

I can get a set of them for next to nothing, But how much improvement, if any, would they be over the stock VM tuners?

Not all tuners, even within the Fender/Squier world, are the same. Measure everything before you buy.

MIM tuners fit 18mm peghead holes. I don't know what Squiers take.

Its the same 11/16th hole that The MiM tuners take. And from what I can tell it looks like I wouldn't have to drill new mounting screw holes.

Yeah, that's the thing, getting the mounting screw holes to line up. But if you really want an upgrade and the Squier holes are identital to the MIM's, go Hipshot.

HB7 Tuning Machine > Store > Hipshot Products

I have an MIM Jazz and the tuners are not all that special.

These Gotoh Res-O-Lite tuners are another alternative to Hipshot. They are lighter weight, like by 50% (aluminum), and adjustable tension as well.

Can someone please explain why there's a need to upgrade from squier vm tuners? If the string stays in tune, isn't the tuner working? How are hipshot or gotoh better compared to the cost?
