MM neck need more percise instructions on cleaning

Ok so I have new strings and I have 100% pure organic lemon oil. I reckon I'll be able to track down some birchwood casey tru oil and wax. So I'll soon be ready to give my sterling neck a good piece of maintenance.

Now for the lemon oil I hear that only a few drops is enough to do the entire neck (does that include the fretboard as well?) Mine is quite dirty. After two years of good use it's gunged up a bit. Though I don't believe it will need sanding.

What I really need to know is how much of the oil and the wax should I use. Is it just a few drops like the lemon oil or as much as is needed. Is it done mroe on a feel basis? If you want it smoother you use a bit more.

Is there any techniques or tools to use to maximize the cleaning potential.
