MM Stingray 5 Pick up height
I've been dialing in my new SR5 for the past few weeks. I really like the sound now that the TI jazz flats are breaking in. I messed around with the pickup height today. Wow the sound is really sensitive to pickup height. It gets more growl as you raise the pick up. significantly more up until you raise it too much and the magnets catch the strings too much and it just sounds all phasey and weird. I like it now right at the point of maximum growl. Also need to drop the B string side down a little to even out the string response. That B can just blow you away if the pick up is up too high. I find it sounds best if the neck side of the pickup is up a little higher than the bridge side.
What other set up tricks have people discovered? This is a great bass! I know I'm a little late to the game on this one, but the SR5 is really a different beast all together when I compare it to my Fender P5. Both great basses, I guess I like Leo + a B string!
